New Year, New You, New Me?

The majority of people I know were happy to see 2021 go. I feel inclined to agree, as my 2021 wasn’t amazing either. I experienced profound loss, we had to come to terms with several new restrictions due to Covid and ultimately, I felt like I had steered off course.

And still…

It wasn’t disastrous enough to be called the worst out of my last 5 years.

Since I’m always solution-oriented, I decided to use the new year to draw a line in the sand. Make one of my famous plans. Discover another opportunity. Get my sh*t together.

Yeah, I know, how original.

Then I started to think about the billions of people that make the same New Year resolutions every year. I thought about how many times we have made promises to ourselves or others in our lives that we fail to keep. We promise to do better, be more understanding, lose weight, get fit, quit smoking, save money, etc., but then life gets busy and before you know it, those goals are forgotten. I thought about why some of my own resolutions didn’t take.

I’m not going to lie: I felt foolish. And I realized again, that I’m not exempt from repeating mistakes, especially if they are a result of bad habits.

So, to break my habit of being caught up in thoughts and hypotheticals, I’ll now make it my mission to force myself to take action and jump right into things.

This is the first of hopefully many jumps.

Happy New Year.
